Albany, NY

The Albany, New York, design represents Ecoregion 5.3 of the Northeastern Coastal Zone, characterized by a humid continental climate and glacial soils shaped by the Hudson and Mohawk Valleys. Once home to oak–hickory forests and meadows, the area has been heavily altered by development, making native plant restoration essential for biodiversity and stormwater management.

The two Albany garden templates show how native landscaping adapts across scales. The Albany Conceptual Native Garden Design models a typical residential lot (8,400 sq ft / ~0.2 acre) and demonstrates how native plants add structure, seasonal interest, and habitat value in small spaces. The Wild Ones Capitol Region NY Demonstration Garden applies these principles in a public setting, serving as a living example of how native species thrive in Albany’s environment and how restoration can extend from private yards to community spaces.
